BRIEF HISTORY OF BRIDGETTINES:
- The Bridgettine Order was founded by St.Bridget of Sweden in 14th Century.
- She was born on 1303 and was married to Ulf Gudmarson
- She was richly favoured with mystical gifts from the childhood.
- She was inspired by Christ with resolve to find a new Order to be named for our Divine Saviour, in honour of Mary the Virgin Mother of God.
- She founded the double monasteries of monks and nuns of 14th century.
- During the Reformation and later conflicts between church and state almost all these convents were dissolved.
- In course of past hundred years a large number of Bridgettine convents women have once again founded. It was wished to re-introduce the order to the countries and places where it had previously existed, but now there are also many Bridgettine communities in India.
